1. Service description
Ranger ("the Service") is an outdoor trip planning and monitoring tool. It helps you plan trips across parks, campgrounds, and trails using publicly available data (Recreation.gov, the National Park Service, OpenStreetMap, and live conditions feeds), lets you save trips to an account, and can send alerts (by push or SMS) about campsite openings and trip safety conditions within your chosen dates.
2. What Ranger is NOT
- Not a booking service. Ranger does not book, reserve, hold, or guarantee any campsite. To reserve, you complete the booking yourself on Recreation.gov or the relevant operator's own site.
- Not affiliated with the government. Ranger is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Recreation.gov, the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service, the USDA, or the Department of the Interior.
- Not a guarantee. Campsites may be booked by others before you can act on an alert. Availability, conditions, and safety data may be delayed or inaccurate. We make no guarantee that you will secure a reservation or that conditions are as reported. Always confirm current conditions with official sources before you travel.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Ranger. By using the Service, you represent that the information you provide is accurate and that any phone number you provide is one you are authorized to use.
4. Accounts
- Some features require an account. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activity under your account.
- You agree to provide accurate account information and to notify us of any unauthorized use.
- You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
5. Subscriptions and billing
- Free and paid plans. Trip planning is free. Ranger may offer paid subscriptions (Ranger Pro) that add features such as automated daily trip-watch and additional safety alerts. Paid features are available only where and when we make them available.
- Payment. Paid subscriptions are billed through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize recurring charges to your selected payment method until you cancel.
- Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price unless you cancel before the renewal date.
- Free trial. Where a free trial is offered, it converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless you cancel first.
- Cancellation. You may cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period; access continues until then.
- Refunds. Payments are generally non-refundable except where required by law. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us at the email below and we will review it in good faith.
- Price changes. We may change subscription prices. We will give notice before a change affects your renewal, and continued use after the change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the new price.
6. SMS alerts (optional)
SMS alerts are entirely optional. Your consent to receive text messages is collected separately at the point you opt in, through its own consent checkbox on the alerts page, and is governed by the standalone SMS Terms. It is not part of these Terms, not a condition of using Ranger, and not a condition of any purchase. The summary below is provided for reference only.
- If you opt in, you consent to receive automated text messages about campsite availability and trip conditions at the phone number you provide.
- Message frequency varies depending on availability and conditions. Typically 0 to 3 messages per week per active watch.
- Message and data rates may apply depending on your wireless carrier and plan.
- You may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any Ranger message. For help, reply HELP.
- Supported carriers include all major U.S. carriers. Service may not be available on all carrier networks.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Submit phone numbers or account details that do not belong to you.
- Use automated tools, scripts, or bots to interact with the Service.
- Attempt to overload, disrupt, or abuse the Service or its infrastructure.
- Use the Service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose.
8. Data and privacy
Your use of Ranger is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your information.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
Ranger is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that:
- The Service will be uninterrupted, timely, or error-free.
- Availability, conditions, or safety data will be accurate or current.
- Alerts will be delivered before a campsite is booked by someone else, or in time to act on changing conditions.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ranger and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to missed reservations, SMS charges, or reliance on availability, conditions, or safety data. You are responsible for your own safety decisions in the outdoors.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
