Zion is a slot-canyon park you experience from the bottom looking up, wading the Virgin River through the Narrows or switchbacking to the exposed spine of Angels Landing, which now requires a permit. From spring through fall the main canyon is car-free: you ride the shuttle in and out.
Summer is hot and busy, spring runoff can close the Narrows, and the shoulder seasons are the sweet spot. Watchman and South Campground fill fast, so lock the base camp before the trails.
